Le HCR a rapatrié 6 400 personnes depuis la mi-février

Le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) a rapatrié au moins 6 400 Sierra Léonais du Liberia depuis la mi-février, a rapporté l'agence pour les réfugiés mardi. Le HCR a indiqué qu'il transporte en moyenne 2 400 personnes chaque semaine dans trois convois des camps de réfugiés au Liberia vers la Sierra Leone.

Il a également transporté 2 023 rapatriés spontanés de la frontière avec le Liberia vers des endroits à l'intérieur de la Sierra Leone. Il a en outre ajouté que 3 325 Libériens fuyant les combats dans leur pays ont été transférés de Jendema, une localité à la frontière de la Sierra Leone, vers quatre sites plus éloignés.

Les camps ont été initialement construits pour des réfugiés sierra léonais retournant dans leur pays.

L'intensification de l'insécurité dans le nord-ouest du Liberia en février a déplacé de nombreux Libériens et a incité certains réfugiés sierra léonais à retourner chez eux.
