    أطلقت وزارة الخارجية الإيطالية والبنك الدولي والمفوضية الأوروبية برنامجاً بقيمة خمسة ملايين دولار لتعزيز مشاريع الطاقة المتجددة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا.

    وسيعمل البرنامج الذي يهدف إلى تكثيف التعاون وتبادل المعلومات وتقليل انبعاث غاز ثاني أكسيد الكربون على الترويج للاستثمار في التقنيات التي تطرح كميات قليلة من الكربون ودعم عمليات نقل التقنيات.

    وقالت دانيلا جريساني، نائب رئيس البنك الدولي لشؤون الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا أن التحدي يتمثل في "تطوير الطاقة الشمسية والطاقة المتولدة من الرياح الغنية بها هذه المنطقة على وجه الخصوص".

    ووفقاً للبنك الدولي، يمكن أن تشهد منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا ارتفاعاً في درجة الحرارة بمعدل درجتين مئويتين خلال الـ 15 إلى 20 سنة القادمة مع حدوث المزيد من الجفاف وغيره من الكوارث الطبيعية.
