Anti-junta groups claim drone attacks in Myanmar capital

Resistance forces in Myanmar have claimed drone attacks on military targets in the capital, Naypyidaw. The exiled National Unity Government said drones were deployed to sites including an airforce base and army headquarters, the BBC reported. The military said seven drones were shot down, with no casualties. Armed resistance to Myanmar’s ruling junta has grown since a February 2021 coup. The UN says more than 2.8 million people are displaced across the diverse country. In Rakhine State, the long-oppressed Rohingya minority faces pressure from both the junta and the ethnic armed group, the Arakan Army. At least 130,000 Rohingya have been forced to live in squalid internment camps for years, and much of the remaining population faces severe restrictions on their basic rights.
