Conflict diamonds meeting “positive”

A two-day workshop on “conflict diamonds” in Namibia involving producer countries and diamond companies was described as “very positive” by an NGO observer. “The major issues discussed was the problem of conflict diamonds and solutions,” the source told IRIN. The details of practical solutions to combating so-called blood diamonds are to be addressed at an international ministerial meeting in Pretoria on 19-21 September. Attending the workshop were the diamond producing countries of South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Guinea, Belgium, Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia and Israel.
