THE coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are inadequately designed to deal with floods, according to a report by the Emergency Management Unit in the Prime Minister’s office.
‘The Namibian’ said the report follows an investigation into the unprecedented floods that swamped the two towns in March, leaving more than 1,000 people homeless after their houses were flooded. The report said the towns’ drainage systems are designed to carry low inflows of water and that there were no proper stormwater drainage points installed along roads.
