فيروس مماثل للسارس في الشرق الأوسط

    أصدرت منظمة الصحة العالمية إنذاراً عالمياً بعد اكتشاف ست حالات من فيروس يشبه مرض المتلازمة الرئوية الحادة الوخيمة (سارس) القاتل في المملكة العربية السعودية وقطر.

    وقد توفيت حالتان من الحالات الست التي أكدت المختبرات إصابتها بالفيروس، مما أدى إلى مخاوف من تفشي مشابه لفيروس السارس الأصلي الذي حدث في عامي 2002 و2003، وأودى بحياة نحو 10 بالمائة من الحالات المصابة التي وصل عددها آنذاك إلى 8,000 شخص.

    وفي تصريح لشبكة الأنباء الإنسانية (إيرين)، قال المتحدث باسم منظمة الصحة العالمية توماس غلين أنه "بناءً على فهمنا للفيروس حتى الآن، ونظراً لتعزيز المراقبة، فإننا نتوقع الإبلاغ عن المزيد من الحالات، وتأكيد إصابتها بالفيروس". وأضاف قائلاً "نتوقع أيضاً أن نرى المزيد من الحالات في بلدان أخرى".

    ويحاول علماء منظمة الصحة العالمية حالياً معرفة سبب العدوى، والتأكد مما إذا كان الفيروس ينتقل من إنسان إلى آخر.

    وقد وجدت دراسة نشرت من قبل علماء من مركز ايراسموس الطبي في روتردام الأسبوع الماضي أوجه تشابه بين الفيروس الجديد الذي يشبه فيروس السارس وفيروس تصاب به الخفافيش في المملكة العربية السعودية.
