The missionary news service MISNA yesterday alleged that pillaging “ beyond biblical proportions” was taking place in rebel-held areas, with coffee, tea, gold and other precious minerals being removed from the country and taken to Bujumbura, Kigali and Kampala. Kinshasa-allied Chadian soldiers in the northern province of Equateur were also involved in looting, it said. Clashes took place between Chadian soldiers and Congolese government troops at Libenge on 5 March when the Congolese troops tried to prevent the Chadians from transporting stolen merchandise to N’djamena, MISNA said.
