Localised household food insecurity anticipated

    Although the government and NGOs are concerned at growing food insecurity in Uganda this year, USAID’s Famine Early Warning System (FEWS) has anticipated only a localised household insecurity. In a report on 10 July, it rejected the possibility of famine because of the availability of alternatives and food security crops. FEWS said that “poorly distributed rainfall characterised the first season resulting in an approximately 50 per cent reduction in shortages of cereals available for household consumption and sale to earn income”.
