At least 1,000 former combatants who have completed the disarmament and demobilisation process are now following training and employment programmes in conjunction with the National Committee for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (NCDDR) and six implementing partners, the NCDDR reported in its 26 July information bulletin.
The six projects include a six-month vocational skills project for 150 ex-fighters organised by the Opportunities Industrialisation Centre, a project to develop Lumley Beach for 12 skilled ex-fighters implemented by the National Tourist Board, and a feeder roads improvement project in Waterloo District south of Freetown orgainsed by the Sierra Leone Roads Authority to benefit 90 ex-combatants.
Other training and employment opportunities include a small enterprise development project, a microcredit assistance programme and a training project in the production of local building materials, the NCDDR reported.
