Commission established for peace plan

The Eritrean government has established a commission to assist with the proposed UN peacekeeping force and the implementation of the OAU peace plan. The Commission for Coordination with the UN Peacekeeping Force was officially formed on Tuesday, Eritrean state radio said. Ambassador Andeberhane Woldegiorgis was appointed by President Isayas Afewerki as the commissioner. The coordinating commission will have “full authority on issues concerning the UN peacekeeping force... [and] in assisting and coordinating the mission of the UN peacekeeping force in the temporary buffer zone and other sovereign Eritrean territory”, the radio said. It will have “the power to coordinate and facilitate relations between the Eritrean government and the UN peacekeeping force”. According to the report, the commission will also “facilitate the immediate implementation of the OAU peace plan”. The main office of the commission will be in the Eritrean capital, Asmara.
