A parliamentarians’ Forum for Peace in the Great Lakes Region, Amani-Rwanda, was officially launched on Friday, the Rwanda News Agency (RNA) said. It quoted the national coordinator, Ndore Rurinda, as saying the forum brought together parliamentary representatives from Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Burundi and Rwanda. “The parliamentarian’s Forum for Peace in the Great Lakes Region was started in February 1998, and is aimed at conflict prevention and resolution,” he noted. The forum is funded by the NGO, International Alert, based in London. “In Rwanda it has only 11 parliamentary representatives, but hopes to expand,” Rurinda said. The forum was officially launched in Uganda, then Burundi, Tanzania and Rwanda. Zambia has not yet officially launched its branch. The forum works in conjunction with international organisations such as the Carter Center.
