Ethiopia has been promised an oil pipeline from Khartoum and Gadarif, Sudan, the private newspaper ‘Efoita’ reported this week. It said Sudanese President Omar Al Beshir had pledged the pipline to facilitate exports in return for the supply of electric power from Ethiopia to Gadarif. The report also said the Sudan government had pledged to construct a railway line as far as Metemma town, on the northwest Ethiopian border. The Azezo road project linking Ethiopia and Sudan had been completed, it said. The newspaper said there were further plans to build road links between Assosa and Humera, on the Sudan border, under the auspices of the Ethiopian Roads Authority. According to the Ethiopian private press, the recent visit to Khartoum by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi had enhanced cooperation between the two countries. Meles visited the oil refinery in Sudan during his visit, said the report.
