Following a series of meetings with West African leaders and commanders at the end of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) summit in Togo on Wednesday, the UN Secretary-General said there was “unanimity” over what was needed to support the UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL), UN news reported. “We were discussing some of the operational difficulties on the ground and the need for us to work as a force that is solid and solidaire and that really works together to implement the mandate,” Kofi Annan told reporters after meeting military and diplomatic officials from the West African troop-contributing countries: Ghana, Guinea and Nigeria.
