Uganda mediating in RCD-ML leadership wrangles

Uganda has sent senior officials to Bunia in northeastern Congo to mediate in leadership wrangles within the rebel RCD-ML, led by Ernest Wamba dia Wamba. "Our allies sent the national political commissar, James Wapakhabulo, to talk to us...to help us solve problems within the top leadership," Wamba told IRIN on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the semi-official 'New Vision' daily reported that Wapakhabulo emphasised Uganda was not behind the RCD-ML leadership problems. Meanwhile, the RCD-ML is to discuss a merger with the other Ugandan-backed rebel Mouvement de liberation du Congo (MLC). "We are scheduled to hold preliminary talks on the 17 July," Wamba said.
