Foreign Minister Severin Ntahomvukiye said achieving peace in the country was “not an event, but a process”. He told the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday, “nothing spectacular” would happen once a peace deal was signed. “The speed of negotiations is not determined by the Burundi government,” he added. “It is linked to the method adopted by the mediator and to the will of the other 17 parties to the negotiations to place the national interest above everything else.” “The real groundwork for peace will begin among Burundians themselves after the Arusha agreement.”
