Deportees from Libya appeal for presidential help

    ABIDJAN

    The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken the case of more than 2,000 Nigerians who were deported from Libya to Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Lagos-based ‘Vanguard’ daily reported. The commission urged Obasanjo to ask Libyan President Colonel Moammar Gadaffi to restore the deportees’ property or compensate them adequately. The commission, in presenting the case to Obasanjo, pointed out that deportees’ rights, including to their property, could not be forfeited simply because they were illegal immigrants.
