Local NGO head killed in Bujumbura suburb

The leader of a Burundi NGO was shot dead in Bujumbura on Saturday by a lone gunman, local news agency NetPress reported on Sunday. Samuel Nimubona, head of World Outreach Initiatives (WOI), a local Christian NGO founded in 1993, was shot outside a friend's house, next to President Pierre Buyoya's residence. It was not clear whether Nimubona was specifically targeted. WOI's mandate includes feeding orphans, street children and widows in the capital. It has established a home for 102 children in Bujumbura and funded a local radio station, Radio Ivyizigiro, NetPress reported.
