President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) left Kinshasa on Tuesday for talks in Nigeria with the leaders of two armed opposition groups at war with his government, AFP reported from Kinshasa.
Kabila is scheduled to meet with Adolphe Onusumba Yemba, president of the Rwandan-backed Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie, and Jean-Pierre Bemba, president of the Ugandan-backed Mouvement pour la liberation du Congo.
Sources close to the government told AFP that Kabila was accompanied to the Nigerian capital, Abuja, by Foreign Minister Leonard She Okitundu and Minister to the Presidency Augustin Ntumba Mwanke.
The government, armed opposition groups, political parties and civic leaders in the DRC are scheduled to hold national peace and reconciliation talks, called the inter-Congolese dialogue, beginning on 15 October in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
