Agreement on border security

Ethiopian and Kenyan officials have met and decided to improve border arrangements in the hope of rectifying strained relations over the common border, Kenyan government radio said on 24 August. A joint communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, which was held in Mombasa, declared that “cattle rustling, banditry and proliferation of arms were detrimental to regional unity”, the radio said. The two countries agreed to hold joint border operations and improve on activities along the border. They also agreed to establish new security posts on the border. The Ethiopian delegation was led by the head of immigration and national affairs, Woldemariam Wako, while the Kenyan team included the provincial security teams from Eastern, North Eastern and Rift Valley provinces, the report said.
