Suspected child trafficker arrested

A Nigerian man detained since Sunday after being caught travelling with young girls is expected to be charged with child trafficking, AFP quoted Sokoto State radio as saying. The man, from Edo State in southern Nigeria, was intercepted in the northern town of Ilela, close to the border with Niger, in the company of 10 girls aged between 10 and 16 years old, AFP said. He told police he was taking them to work in his restaurant in neighbouring Mali, whereas one of the girls said they had been told they would be taken abroad to work in hairdressing salons, the news agency quoted the radio. Edo is one of the states worst affected by the trafficking of girls and women.
