Peace envoy completes mission

The special envoy for Somalia of Sudanese President Umar el-Bashir, who is the current chairman of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), has completed a tour of Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia. Ali Abd al-Rahman al-Numayri told the official news agency Suna on Wednesday that he had toured the countries to discuss national reconciliation in Somalia, and that he had delivered a message from Bashir to the Somali interim president, Abdiqassim Salad, on the IGAD’s efforts to bring about peace and stability in Somalia. He said he had also met the Somali prime minister, foreign minister, deputy premier, and members of the external relations committee of the Somali parliament. In Ethiopia, he said he had met the Ethiopian foreign minister, the former secretary-general of the Organisation of African Unity, and representatives of the European Union and the UN. The special envoy returned to Sudan on Monday, Suna said on Wednesday.
