Abdullahi Yusuf retreats to Garowe

Forces loyal to Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf were routed and forced out of Bosaso, the commercial capital of the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland, northeastern Somalia, on Monday. Militia loyal to the new “acting president”, Yusuf Haji Nur forced Abdullahi Yusuf and his militia back to the regional capital, Garowe, on Monday night, Muhammad Deq, editor of ‘Sahan’ newspaper told IRIN. On Tuesday, traditional elders met local government workers in Bosaso port - a critical source of revenue - and instructed them to report to the new administration of Yusuf Haji Nur.
