US $1 million development project for Cibitoke province

    NAIROBI

    The launch of a community development project that will bring nearly US $1 million in investment to Murwi and Buganda communes in Cibitoke Province was agreed on Monday among the local population, the NGO INTER-SOS, and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), a UNDP representative confirmed to IRIN on Wednesday.

    The project will have as its focus the rehabilitation of four primary schools, the provision of safe drinking water over a distance of 17 km, the installation of two mills, and micro-credit schemes for the purchase of small livestock. The project will be financed by a US $760,000 contribution from UNDP, and a US $176,000 contribution from INTER-SOS and the local communities. The project will complement two other projects already underway in the province in the domains of food security, housing, income generation and capacity-building, amounting to a total of US $5,889,000 in contracts with UNDP.
