Needs grow more acute in northeast

The IDP Commission in Rustaq, northeast Afghanistan, has confirmed the presence of 6,000 IDP families in Dasht-i-Qala and raised concern regarding the needs of these people, who were expected to remain in the area over the winter, according to the weekly report from the Office of the Coordinator. Shelter would be required and a survey of immediate shelter needs was on going, but logistical constraints had already been identified, the report said. Humanitarian agencies’ food stocks were becoming scarce in Dasht-i-Qala, with MSF down to 3,000 rations of rice and oil, and WFP having wheat supplies sufficient for approximately three months, it added.
