New IDPs top the 100,000 mark

    ABIDJAN

    With the number of civilians displaced since early May reaching at least 105,000, the humanitarian situation remains one of concern, UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said in New York. At least half this number, he said on Monday, were displaced in the preceding 10 days. At least 22,000 newly displaced people from the Makeni-Magburaka area in the north of the country have been registered in the town of Mile 91 and are awaiting food distribution.
