People started moving out of the northern town of Adigrat in private cars and public vehicles from yesterday. Humanitarian sources told IRIN “it appears very orderly and organised”. Travel north from the Tigray regional capital of Mekele was stopped for humanitarian workers.
A regional analyst in Addis Ababa told IRIN that a military solution is unlikely, as the conflict is “not just about a slice of territory”. Even if the Ethiopians achieve a military victory in the latest round of fighting, the conflict “will be prolonged” because Eritrea will not see it as conclusive, said the analyst.
