President Omar Bongo was sworn in yesterday for a further seven-year term in office, AFP reported. Bongo won nearly 67 percent of the vote in December’s presidential elections. The ceremony was attended by hundreds of guests including the presidents of Chad, Angola, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome e Principe, Burundi and Congo. After the ceremony Bongo was expected to hold “informal meetings” with his guests on conflicts in the region, the report added.
Meanwhile, the prime minister and his government resigned this morning, as required by the Constitution, the agency said, quoting an official source.
