JMC condemns ceasefire violations

Brigadier-General Timothy Kazembe, acting chairman of the Joint Military Commission (JMC) established to implement the Lusaka ceasefire agreement, on Wednesday condemned ongoing ceasefire violations in northern Equateur Province which, he said, undermined the peace process. Kazembe said the period between the first week of June, when the seventh session of the JMC was held, and Wednesday’s eighth plenary session had seen “massive ceasefire violations” by warring parties in the DRC, particularly in Equateur, the Zambian ‘Post’ newspaper reported. The JMC’s ability to investigate these violations had been affected by a lack of financial and logistical support which threatened to halt its operations in the next three months, Kazembe said.
