A new Congolese rebel group, fighting the leader of the Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie-Mouvement de liberation (RCD-ML) Ernest Wamba dia Wamba, has been named as Leopard Mobile, a representative of the defectors told IRIN on Thursday. “Leopard Mobile is composed of our children who have decided not to work with Wamba dia Wamba because of his poor administration,” said Ykakuheire Akiki, the head of a delegation of “parents of the defectors”, currently in Kampala. He claimed Wamba had “convinced” the Ugandan authorities that the rebels were undergoing training to support the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) who are fighting the Ugandan government. “This is a lie,” Akiki added. His delegation is in the Ugandan capital for talks with President Yoweri Museveni, whose army is backing Wamba. The Ugandan army is said to have increased the deployment of troops to the RCD-ML headquarters in Bunia after the defection of more than 500 fighters.
