20 bodies found near Bujumbura

    At least 20 decomposing bodies were discovered last week north of the Burundian capital, Bujumbura, according to Agence France Presse (AFP). A senior Burundian army officer told IRIN that the bodies could be those of rebels killed in fighting in Bujumbura Rural last week, but he refused to reveal a death toll. Fighters of the rebel PALIPEHUTU-FNL, which has so far declined to take part in the Arusha peace process, are most active in the province. Last week more than 20 army cadets were killed in a rebel ambush in Bujumbura Rural, on their way back from a handball match in the southern province of Bururi.
