RCD-ML officials freed by rival faction

Two officials of the Bunia-based Rassemblement congolais pour democratie-Mouvement de liberation (RCD-ML) have been rescued from the militia loyal to the former RCD-ML first deputy, Mbusa Nyamwisi, RCD-ML leader Ernest Wamba dia Wamba told IRIN on Thursday. Wamba said he had called the two, Jonas Kabuyaya and another official only identified as Mbula, to Bunia in late October, but that they went missing after the putsch by Nyamwisi’s group on 3 November. “We thought they were dead,” he said. “Now there is one person still missing called Mokili,” he added. Amnesty International (AI) on Wednesday reported that the two men had been released on 27 November by a Ugandan army officer, “illustrating the influence of the Ugandan authorities over the situation in northeastern DRC”.
