Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Pasi is in Libya seeking the review of a court decision that sentenced five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor to death by firing squad for allegedly infecting more than 400 children with HIV.
The defendants were accused of infecting the children with HIV-contaminated blood in an experiment to find a cure for AIDS.
Human rights groups counter that Libya created the experiment story to cover up unsafe practices in its hospitals and clinics.
Pasi was quoted by the Associated Press as saying: "Libya has its own tragedy, just like Bulgaria - we must help each other to find common ground. Dialogue is the only way we can find a solution, that is why I have made this trip."
