AIDS information centre to cover Africa

    JOHANNESBURG

    Uganda's Institute of Public Health at Mulago Hospital in the capital, Kampala, has opened a unique HIV/AIDS information centre.

    The AIDS Treatment Information Centre (ATIC) is expected to provide a specialist treatment information service aimed at enhancing HIV/AIDS care in Africa, and serving as a model for similar centres in other resource-limited settings.

    Robinah Nganwa, an HIV clinical pharmacist at ATIC, told a local newspaper, New Vision, that by strictly answering queries from health care providers, patients would be encouraged to seek medical services only from trained health care professionals.

    The project depends partly on a state-of-the-art call centre, manned by clinical pharmacists and physicians specialising in HIV/AIDS.
