Additional millions for AIDS plan

    JOHANNESBURG
    The US has pledged a further US $11 million in the next few weeks to Mozambique, on top of the $16 million already granted for the implementation of an HIV/AIDS emergency relief plan. Randall Tobias, the coordinator of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, made the announcement earlier this week during his current three-nation African tour, the Mozambican news agency, AIM, reported. Tobias said his government was strongly committed to doing all in its power to tackle the pandemic and noted the $15 billion global HIV/AIDS initiative announced by US President George Bush about 18 months ago. The multibillion dollar initiative is expected to benefit 14 of the world's most affected countries over the next five years.
