Thailand an ideal venue for world AIDS conference - IAS

    The president of the International AIDS Society (IAS), Dr Joep Lange, has hailed Bangkok, Thailand, as an ideal venue for the fifteenth International AIDS Conference to be held from 11 to 16 July.

    Lange said in a recent press release: "Thailand is a natural place to hold the International AIDS Conference in 2004. It has gone to great lengths to minimise the impact of HIV/AIDS, and has made good progress in ensuring all its citizens receive access to assistance with [regard to] prevention and care."

    The Thai Ministry of Public Health will host the conference and is also one of the organisers, together with the IAS, UNAIDS, the International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS, the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, the International Council of AIDS Service Organisations, and the Thai NGO, Coalition on AIDS.

    Some 15,000 delegates from 160 countries are expected to attend the conference, one of the largest-ever HIV/AIDS meeting, and will concentrate on "community, science and leadership," according to the release.
