Zimbabwe's National AIDS Council (NAC) has increased its annual allocation of school fees for HIV/AIDS orphaned from just over US $22,000 to about $112,000.
Although there had been speculation that the NAC had stopped paying fees for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, NAC acting executive director, Raymond Eyekeye, said the increase was for the benefit of more orphaned children country-wide.
In 2003 an estimated 1,4 million children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic had their school fees paid from the fund.
Eyekeye was quoted by a local newspaper, The Herald as saying: "We are now channelling the money through the Basic Education Assistance Module and this was a Cabinet decision.
