Hollywood legend funds AIDS clinic

    JOHANNESBURG

    Movie legend and AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor has donated US $25,000 to a South African HIV/AIDS clinic, the US-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) said in a statement.

    Taylor earmarked the money for the purchase of life-prolonging antiretroviral drugs for patients at AHF's Global Immunity Ithembalabantu (Zulu for "people's hope") Clinic, in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

    AHF president Michael Weinstein said the funding would allow at least 100 additional patients to receive anti-AIDS treatment for one year.

    "I wish to thank Elizabeth Taylor for her undying support of our efforts to provide these important life-prolonging drugs to a population in desperate need. This donation puts us one step closer to providing treatment to hundreds of thousands of people who desperately need it," Weinstein said.
