South Africa's Western Cape government has announced three new antiretroviral treatment sites for people living with HIV/AIDS, bringing the total number of operational sites in the province to 16.
The provincial premier, Marthinus van Schalkwyk, was quoted by the South African Press Association as saying: "The most important factor however in the Western Cape's success has been the dedication, commitment, expertise and passion of our health care professionals."
The premier's announcement came amid criticism of the national Department of Health over delays in rolling out the treatment plan elsewhere in the country.
