"Systematic" approach urged on global problems

    During the recent World Economic Forum in India, former US president Bill Clinton called on political and economic leaders to push for a "systematic" approach to the global problems of HIV/AIDS, poverty and security.

    Clinton was quoted by Agence France-Presse (AFP) as saying: "The world is not organised systematically to deal with the fact that we are globally interdependent, whether it's HIV/AIDS or conflicts or economics."

    The former president urged leaders to combine their efforts in order to deal with such problems, warning that isolated efforts could only go so far.

    Clinton recently helped broker an agreement with five major medical testing companies to lower the cost of equipment used to detect HIV/AIDS to developing countries.
