The distribution of agricultural and health packages has started in Liberia in six camps for internally displaced persons (IDP) under a grant of US $105,000 provided by the German government and managed by World Vision's Liberia office, the organisation said on Tuesday.
"What we are doing here is just one of the tokens of World Vision-Liberia identifying with the people of Liberia and the nation," Johnson Olufowote, head of World Vision-Liberia, was quoted as saying in a news release issued by the NGO.
"We are carrying out development work in different parts of the country, but for some time now, we have put emphasis on helping internally displaced people," Olufowote said recently at the launch of the distribution.
Agricultural tools distributed included hoes, shovels, watering cans, diggers, rakes, rain boots, cutlasses, files and axes, the release said.
Beneficiaries were also provided with cooking utensils, used clothes, shoes, jerry cans, buckets, soap and blankets. Medication was provided at clinics run by World Vision Liberia. Tarpulin, delivery kits, baby kits and more cooking utensils will be distributed soon, the NGO added.
