Disabled people lack AIDS information

People living with physical disabilities in Ghana have no access to existing HIV/AIDS educational material, the local Ghanaian Chronicle reported on Friday. This followed a recent appeal by the NGO, Disabled Christian Fellowship International, for the government to make available the necessary resources to the country's disabled. The executive director of the NGO, Francis Adjetey Sowah, said the physically challenged were not immune to HIV/AIDS infection. He warned the public against the perception that disabled people were not sexually active and, therefore, stood a lesser risk of contracting HIV. While Ghana has no separate statistics on prevalence rates among its disabled population, research shows that three percent of the country's adults are currently living with HIV/AIDS.
