HIV-positive benefit from WFP relief

    JOHANNESBURG
    People living with HIV/AIDS in the Central African Republic (CAR) are currently receiving relief aid from the UN World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP country representative, David Bulman, said the feeding scheme was expected to run until the end of November and assist some 11,000 people. Bulman told the UN news service PlusNews: "People living with HIV/AIDS need significant nutritional support to fight opportunistic infections that accompany the virus." He said most people living with HIV/AIDS were spending great sums of money on fighting opportunistic infections and had no money left over for food. Bulman confirmed that a number of the country's health and nutritional centres, as well as widows and orphans of the pandemic were benefiting from the scheme.
