New youth AIDS programme lacks funds

The launch of a new initiative at the end of the week is set to promote HIV/AIDS prevention awareness among Kenya's youth, local newspaper The Nation reported on Thursday. The Crisis Pregnancy Ministries, a Christian organisation, said its "Kill AIDS Dead" campaign would mainly target students, and aimed to discourage pre-marital sex as a means of preventing HIV infection. However, Grace Ojiambo, executive director of the organisation, has expressed concern over the lack of donor commitment. Ojiambo said: "We hope to raise some money to meet our recurrent expenses as we do not have a major donor. While the majority of our staff are volunteers, we need to facilitate their travel to schools throughout Kenya."
