Three Mozambican provinces are set to benefit from a US $2.7 million German grant earmarked for tackling HIV/AIDS, Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique (AIM) reported on Wednesday.
Local health authorities recently said that despite government and NGO efforts, HIV infection rates were high, with one in every five of the country's adults living with HIV/AIDS.
The German grant decision was made after negotiations between the two governments, to support Mozambique's national HIV/AIDS programme.
Elizabeth Naegele, of the German Cooperation for Development (GTZ) said the grant would be used for staff training, AIDS awareness campaigns and treatment in the southern Inhambane, central Manica and Sofala provinces.
