Women from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are set to formulate a practical HIV/AIDS programme at an upcoming summit in Johannesburg.
The Women in Partnership Against AIDS (WIPAA) summit has laid the foundation for African women to share, discuss and commit themselves to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care, since its inception in 1999.
The HIV/AIDS director of the South African health department, Nono Simelela, said the summit was vital to unite women in the fight against the pandemic.
Simelela was quoted by the local BuaNews service as saying: "In our country, and all over the world, women are coming together to find better ways to fight HIV and AIDS."
Over 700 delegates are expected to attend the summit, where South Africa's health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will deliver the keynote address.
