The Global AIDS Fund on Friday said allegations of corruption in Kenya's National AIDS Control Council (NACC) would not hamper the country's chances of a US $52 million grant.
This follows reports that the Fund wanted to stop grants flowing into the country unless claims of corruption were probed.
Africa director for the fund, Dr Elhadj Sy, told the UN news service PlusNews: "The Global Fund is not involved at all in any discussion with regard to this matter. We have not issued any threats or any statements on this."
According to the grant agreement signed early in June between Kenya's government and the Fund, US $37 million of the US $52 million grant had been earmarked to tackle HIV/AIDS.
"There have been no misappropriations of funds or corruption at any time within the NACC. We have nothing to hide," NACC's public relations manager, Kassim Mambo, confirmed.
