Kenya has received a major shot in the arm from a recent US $52 million Global AIDS Fund grant, local newspaper The East African Standard reported on Monday.
However, the Fund has cautioned the government against misappropriation of the money.
The Fund's portfolio manager for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, Jerry Van Mourik, stressed that all money should be spent for the set purpose. He warned that misuse would lead to a freeze in disbursement.
Kenyan Finance Minister David Mwiraria, promised that "no effort would be spared to root out corrupt individuals" when signing the donor financial agreement at the weekend.
In terms of the agreement, US $38 million of the grant has been allocated to tackling HIV/AIDS.
