US rock legend Carlos Santana has joined the battle in South Africa against HIV/AIDS, the South African Press Association (SAPA) reported on Friday.
Santana pledged more than US $3 million from his upcoming US "Shaman" concert tour to help tackle the country's HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Some 600 South Africans per day die from AIDS-related illnesses, while another 1,600 contract HIV.
Santana said the money would be donated to the "Amandla AIDS Fund" of Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA).
ANSA confirmed it would use the money to purchase antiretroviral drugs and prevent new infections through education.
