The African Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of about US $20.4 million to finance a rural development project in eastern Cote d'Ivoire, the bank said in a news release on Tuesday.
It said the aims of the Middle Comoe Rural Development Support Project (MC-RDSP) project included increasing on a sustainable basis the productivity of coffee and cocoa, the country's two main crops, and diversifying agricultural production in the Middle Comoe region. The MC-RDSP also aims to reduce poverty in rural areas and to improve the living conditions of about 237,000 rural inhabitants of the region.
The project was expected to promote the recovery of the agricultural economy in Middle Comoe and help increase the incomes of about 12,400 farmers, the ADB said.
