The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on Friday donated US $50,000 for the reconciliation process in Cote d'Ivoire, a statement from the organisation said. The donation was in response to a request for support submitted to the OAU, by the board of the country's national reconciliation forum.
"The Secretary-General considering the importance the OAU has attached to the reconciliation process in Cote d'Ivoire authorised the release of the amount," a spokesman from the organisation in Addis Ababa told IRIN on Monday. The donation was received on behalf of the forum by Cote d'Ivoire's First Secretary in Addis Ababa, Kouadio Severin, the statement added.
On Thursday, the steering committee of Cote d'Ivoire's National Reconciliation Forum submitted to President Laurent Gbagbo the results of a three-month public debate in which representatives of political, religious, non-governmental, academic and other groups analysed and proposed solutions for the country's socio-political problems. The forum, which opened on 9 October, will be officially closed on 18 December.
